In a No-rules Season, the Accessory Options are Endless

The ‘90s are back in a big way with barely-there strappy sandals and boxy handbags that Cher Horowitz and Carrie Bradshaw would love. But so are the ‘80s (neon everything and bike shorts). And the ‘70s (bell-bottoms and platforms).

Plus there are new movements toward androgynous, dystopian fashion, elevated athleisure and modern opulence (hence the recent trend of carrying multiple Givenchy bags of varying sizes at once). These days, fashion is a veritable free-for-all. Still, staying on top of the style food chain requires a few guidelines, even if they’re loose ones. Whether you’re channeling vintage Britney and Justin (or Gigi Hadid’s recent Birthday theme) with denim-on-denim, or rocking the renewed trend of matching sets, accessories are the way to really make your mark.

From head to toe, here are a few celebrity, influencer and editor-approved finishing touches made by luxury designers we love.

Bucket hats were on so many Spring 2019 runways, and the babushka hood is on the rise (thanks to A$AP Rocky, Gucci and those April showers that bring May flowers). Designer baseball caps are a forever favorite, though, as evidenced by Rihanna sporting a Balenciaga dad cap on Instagram. Also, welcome back, fisherman hats and visors (oh hey, Dsquared2).

Work the Middle: Get into Givenchy Bags like Meghan

If fanny packs and crossbody bags had babies, they would be belt bags. Sleek, stylish and versatile, they keep your hands free for selfies. Plus they hold your lippies, keys, credit cards, and more. Micro bags are the newest kids on the it-bag block, and though they might be small, they are fierce, especially when hooked to always-in quilted and signature bags. The most useful, however, are multifunctional styles, like convertible Cross3 Givenchy bags, as seen on Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex (aka Meghan Markle).

Walk this Way… Kick it like Kylie in Versace

Eye contact/shoe contact… it’s all the same, right? Both are strong indications of who you are. If you’re into block heels, you’re likely someone who likes security (or a sartorial free spirit who feels the ‘70s vibe). Digging logo sandals? There are so many options, but if you’re like Kylie Jenner, you’ll be into high-heel Versace slides. A preference for clear heels, like those by Yeezy and Miu Miu, may indicate a transparent personality, and whimsical women may opt for shoes that nod to geometry class, like Kat Maconie sandals and Prada’s square-toed slingbacks.

Now you’re ready to step out like a street-style star!
